Based on nuon for Peace building’s vision of the necessity of women’s participation in sustainable peacemaking and peace building processes, and the importance of women’s participation in all stages of this process, whether before, during, or after protracted conflicts, the first session of the Civilian Workshop Initiative was held at Noon’s office in Rural Damascus.
A group of women from the families of detainees and forcibly disappeared persons in the city of Darayya in Rural Damascus participated in the session.
The session addressed the challenges facing women in participating in peace building initiatives and activities, particularly for families of male and female detainees, and the opportunities available in light of the need to consolidate efforts to develop peace building programs. The session also addressed proposals and an action plan for cooperation and networking among women peace builders from various Syrian regions to identify priorities and needs according to different contexts and build on the results to organize initiatives that serve the peace building process and empower women to play an active role in it.
