Objective:
This Code of Conduct aims to establish unified rules, standards, and principles for working within the organization. It outlines the values, principles, and matters related to employees’ professional activities. Adhering to this code affirms the commitment of Nuon for Peacebuilding to the principles of human rights, justice, integrity, transparency, sound governance, and the prevention of abuse, exploitation, and violence. It also ensures that all activities serve the organization’s values, vision, and goals.

This Code of Conduct applies to all employees and consultants at all levels within the organization, including those working full-time or part-time, as long as there is a functional relationship with Nuon for Peacebuilding. It also applies to volunteers when they perform tasks for the organization or represent it in meetings, conferences, or forums.

Nuon is committed to disseminating and promoting the principles of this Code of Conduct and ensuring that all concerned individuals understand its implementation mechanisms during their work. A clear reporting and complaints mechanism is also in place for violations of the Code, to ensure a safe work environment for all staff, members, and consultants to report complaints securely and without fear of repercussions.


Principles and Standards of the Code of Conduct:

Belief in the General Principles of Human Rights as a Foundation for Behavior and Action:
Nuon for Peacebuilding is committed to the principles of human rights, respects and values diversity in its work and practices, and reflects this in its policies and governing documents. The organization collaborates with individuals, teams, and organizations that share these values and goals, regardless of political, religious, national, cultural, or ethnic affiliation.

Belief in and Commitment to Combat All Forms of Discrimination Based on Religion, Race, Color, or Gender:
Nuon is committed to upholding citizenship, equality, and non-discrimination. It adheres to human rights principles and actively opposes violence based on religion, race, color, or gender. It also ensures the protection of its staff against any form of discrimination and works to promote these values within society through its activities.

Commitment to Full Gender Equality and the Protection of Children’s Rights:
Nuon is committed to gender equality in employment, rights, responsibilities, and leadership roles within the organization. It adopts positive support measures to help women close gender gaps in work and participation, through empowerment, support, and attention to the needs and circumstances of female workers. The organization also protects the rights of boys and girls in all its work.

Commitment to Protecting the Rights of Employees, Workers, and Volunteers:
The organization respects the rights of its employees, workers, and volunteers, including salaries, expenses, work hours, maternity and regular leave, psychological and moral support, and the compensations they are entitled to in accordance with applicable laws, or the organization’s policies—whichever offers better conditions—while also adhering to international standards for decent work.

Belief in the Values of Peace and Tolerance and the Commitment to Spreading Them:
Nuon and its staff are committed to the values of tolerance and sustainable peacebuilding. They work to promote these values within society and build relationships based on these principles, including how they interact with employees.

Belief in the Role of Civil Work in Building Communities Through Inclusive Participation:
The organization believes in the central role of civil work in building peace, social cohesion, and a culture of dialogue and participation. It works to maximize this impact through cooperation, networking, and coordination with other civil society organizations and groups that share its values, to benefit from shared experiences and resources.

Commitment to Combating Violence, Intolerance, and Extremism:
The organization is committed to combating all forms of violence, extremism, and exclusion in society and within its activities. It applies this principle across all its policies. The organization also ensures protection of its staff and volunteers from any form of violence, harassment, or abuse in the workplace through specific protection policies and clear complaint procedures.

Commitment to Environmental Protection and Avoidance of Harmful Practices:
Nuon considers environmental security a cornerstone of human and food security, and a vital component of peacebuilding. It ensures environmental protection in its operations, adopts energy-saving measures, and uses environmentally friendly resources and supplies.

Confidentiality of Information:
All employees and workers at Nuon are required to maintain confidentiality of any sensitive information related to the organization or its staff—especially financial, administrative, contractual, or negotiation-related information—without written and signed approval from the Executive Director. Breaches may result in accountability measures. The organization is also committed to protecting the data of its beneficiaries and requires informed consent for the publication of any information, images, or reports related to its activities.
